Elizabeth Wright

Born with congenital limb deficiency, Elizabeth’s life prospects seemed bleak, but with parents who decided to raise her to be as independent as possible, Elizabeth grew up with a rock solid self-belief and positive attitude to go on and achieve the seemingly impossible.

At the age of 13 she set the massive goal to swim at the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games. 3 years later, she competed at her first Paralympic Games in Atlanta, USA, as a member of the Australian National Swim team.

During her Paralympic career, Elizabeth held world records for Butterfly, won countless races, and won three Paralympic Medals: One silver and two bronze.

Since moving to the UK from Australia and starting her speaking business in response to the amazing success that was the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, Elizabeth has spoken in primary and secondary schools all over the UK. It has been noted by teachers and parents that Elizabeth has a natural ability with children, with teachers commenting “they could have heard a pin drop” during the talk. Elizabeth addresses such issues as disability, the Paralympics, goal setting, and goal achievement. Elizabeth is completely open about her life, relating the difficulties of growing up with a disability, and overcoming the issues she faced to achieve Paralympic success.

Elizabeth’s story intrigues and inspires across generations, with her ability to cross between primary schools, secondary schools and corporate/business, illustrating her adaptability and passion for speaking. Elizabeth is a professional speaker who believes in the power of stories to inspire and motivate those who hear her speak. Impressing students, teachers, and parents, Elizabeth leaves people believing that they can overcome any obstacle in their lives, and also affirms a sense of self-belief in her audiences.

Mainly targeting young people, Elizabeth feels that her story of Paralympic success, which occurred during her teen years, illustrates that you can achieve great things in life, and that all it takes is a clear plan, a solid self belief, and an incontrovertible support network to make your dreams come true.

Elizabeth is continuing her professional development; she is studying towards an MA in Character Education at the Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues, University of Birmingham.
